Summer Vacation, Part 2 - Echo

The main part of our trip was spent in Utah. We took a day and went down to the Oquirrh Temple open house in Salt Lake. It was really neat and I'm glad Jocey was able to see what the inside of a temple looks like. She was very interested and loved all the pictures of Jesus.

Then the real vacation began. We spent 4 LOVELY days at Echo Resort. Echo Reservoir is just on the border of Utah and Wyoming. Jon's mission buddy, Craig, has an aunt that owns the resort, so they usually go there to ski in the summer. We borrowed my parents' tent trailer, brought our pop up canopy, and had a ball. Craig and Carolyn had a camper too, brought his dad's boat, and made the whole time so much fun. We skied, ate great food, had quite a few laughs at Craig's dad's expense (two words - duct tape), and created some memories for our kids. It's been 4 years since Jon skied last, but he did awesome. We can't wait to get back out on the beach or in a boat.

Jocey and me at the Oquirrh Temple - it was a windy day!

Jon and Jocey at the temple

Jon and Jocey on the pontoon boat - day one.

Jocey fishing - she didn't catch anything, but it was so cool to see how quickly she picked it up. She was reeling the line in all by herself!

Jocey driving the pontoon boat.

Jon and Jocey hanging out in the camper - we were so grateful that my parents let us use it. Tent camping and pregnancy do not go well together. But I am not sure we can classify this as camping - a DVD player, a bed, and steaks for dinner. Hmmmm....

Jon's first time up, taking it very easy and feeling out the motions again.

Craig let Jocey drive the boat for a little bit.

The kids throwing rocks and splashing in the water.

Jocey enjoying her s'more.

Carolyn and their little boy - is he foaming at the mouth or is that marshmallow?

Jocey, ready to waterski. Too bad she has to wait another 2 years.

Jon's first set of the third day - you can't tell in the picture, but his spray is reaching the rocks up against the dam, which are about 20 feet away from him. It was awesome!

Jon's second set of the third day - lookin' good, honey!

Craig took us up the river that feeds into the reservoir. Jocey was excited that she would have the opportunity to jump out of the boat into the water. Little did she know how cold the water was!

Craig and Carolyn's little boy, teething on the window of the boat - hey, don't judge us! He just loves boating as much as we all do!

Jon and Jocey in the river - Jocey lasted about 2 minutes, but at least it was long enough for pictures!

Sherman got thirsty on the boat, so he started licking the water off of Jocey's water shoes when she got in the boat. She loved it.

Jon's first run of the evening on the third day.

Jon's last run of the trip - the next picture will show why it was the last one...

Yup, you guessed it! The boat died on us! We were clear on the other side of the reservoir from where the boat ramp/our camp was. Jon and Craig paddled for quite a while before someone came to tow us in. It was hilarious. Stay tuned for video.

Our last evening at Echo - beautiful sunset over the reservoir.
