Five years ago, I had been stressing out about a wedding. It would be both of our second nuptials. We both had the big fancy wedding before. And trying to think of a place to have the wedding, the reception, the dress, the line, etc.etc.etc. was seriously TRIPPING ME OUT! And in turn, it was tripping Jon out. Poor guy.
Add to that, my ex-husband wasn't about to give me a temple divorce. So a temple marriage was out of the question. And we were getting pressure from many different sides as to how we should have the wedding.
Then, I was involved in an accident. A kid barrelling down 4900 South T-boned me doing 50 miles per hour. I wasn't hurt really bad, but enough to put me in bed for about two weeks. After that, Jon suggested that we just elope. He had heard that you could get married at a wedding chapel in Vegas where you could go through a drive-thru. That would be cool, different, and it would just be about us. Kind of what a marriage is about right?
So, one weekend, we hopped in the car on Friday, drove to the Vegas courthouse (which is open 24 hours by the way) to get our marriage license, and stayed with Jon's sister Dawnie for the night. Then we got up the next day, took our time getting ready, and drove here (okay, for the life of me, I cannot figure out how to rotate the picture in blogger now, sorry):
and we ordered our wedding ceremony from here:
We had the #2 Combo: Music, Ceremony, Rose, Photo, and Post Cards. It was magical. The minister opened the window, put 2 computer speakers out on the ledge, played the wedding march, and then gave us our vows. The whole time we were in the car. AWESOME! Then they had us get out to take a picture. It was awesome. Oh, and not meaning to, we wore black shirts and jeans. Totally comfy and casual.
After the ceremony, we headed over here for our wedding luncheon for 2:
After lunch, we headed back to Dawnie's house to get our things. They took a few pictures of us, the happily married couple. And we headed her for some time ALONE (wink wink):
They gave us a room in the pyramid, which was so cool because we had floor to ceiling slanted windows. AWESOME! Plus the elevator went up on a slant as well. We took a little stroll through the hotel/casino, saw a mummy exhibit on display at the time, then headed back to the room to change into something nicer so we could go to dinner here:
Sadly, the Sacred Sea Room is no longer at the Luxor. So sad. We had the best meal - I had lobster and cheese stuffed chicken breast, Jon had filet mignon. It was fantastic. Headed back for a little nookie and some shut eye. Then it was back to reality the next morning.
I'm not so sure we made very many people happy by choosing to do it this way, but it was a fantastic weekend, just for us. And heck, it makes for a great story - we got married in the drive-thru!

I loved this post and your story. I think it's completely awesome that you were married that way. After all, you are adults and had already been down the aisle before, so why not? Glad you ditched the ex and found Jon. You deserve all of this happiness and more!
I remember when Craig came over and told me that you had gotten re-married... and that you'd driven to Vegas and went to a drive through! I seriously about died! We had a great laugh about it though. The one and only Cook to pull that off! I'm so glad you finally found your awesome BFF.. (BoyFriendForever!) haha! You deserve the joy you have both found. Congratulations and happy anniversary!
p.s. - after 5 years, I'm still waiting to meet him though??! ;)
