Lookout, Cat's on a political rampage again. If you don't want to read this, I won't be offended. That's why I haven't allowed comments on this post. This is just merely to get my feelings out there.
Okay, look, I'll be the first to admit that I am not terribly happy about the results of this election. BUT! The beauty of our democracy is that everyone is entitled to their opinion of what and who is best. I respect that. I've been watching the HBO series "John Adams," and I have been feeling a little more patriotic lately.
My soapbox? If I hear or see one more thing having to do with President Obama's "race," I think I'll throw up. It is a wonderful thing that we as an American population can come from the Civil War era, to the Civil Rights era, to now and elect an African American as President. WONDERFUL! But folks, he's been elected. He's been sworn in. They've had the first dance at their first ball for crying out loud! But, if we're going to start treating each other as human beings, and not as blacks or white, we need to STOP POINTING IT OUT! Blacks and whites! It is my opinion that this is a self perpetuating cycle that will never end unless we seriously LET IT GO! Isn't it blatantly obvious what color he is? Let's now move on and treat the President as exactly what he is - a man! Period, end of story.
Now, a word about the inauguration. It was amazing. I am impressed. I REALLY hope that the man that gave that speech yesterday is the same man 4 years from now. I REALLY hope the words he spoke were in truth and not just what the American people want or need to hear. Hard times call for hard decisions. I pray that I am not disappointed in 6 months.
Side note, did anyone notice that the whole ceremony was politically correct - very culturally diverse. Again, wonderful touch. America has been called the melting pot, and that is for a reason. I think it's great that in a country of such diversity, that diversity is celebrated. But for heavens sake, please stop making such an effort to point it out!
My only other hitch - why on earth was "My Country 'Tis of Thee" included, but not the "Star Spangled Banner?" Grrrrrrrrrrrrr..............
