Able to Leap Tall Buildings...

Halloween was not a big event in our house this year. I started the month out with decorations up, but when Jocey started freaking out, I opted to take them down. Because of that, I thought that she wouldn't want to go trick-or-treating (plus, she doesn't like candy so what's the point, right?).

Then we decided to go to our Ward's Trunk or Treat tomorrow night. I was just going to take her in her regular clothes, couldn't see spending $30 on a costume she'll wear once. My visiting teacher, Rebecca, couldn't bear the thought of her going without a costume, so she dropped off a few of her kids' old ones last night. We tried them on her this morning, and they were either too big or too small. So, we opted for a costume that she has just started acting out: Super Jocey.

The other night, I was getting Jocey out of the bath while Jon was folding laundry in our room. I went in to her room to get her jammies when I heard Jon laugh histarically and say, "Go show Mommy." She comes running in her room, arms out wide, saying, "Super Jocey, Super Jocey, Mommy, I'm Super Jocey!" I have NO CLUE where she got this from, but it was hilarious. Quickly, I think of an addition - she needs a cape. I do the makeshift cape thing of tying a blanket around her neck. She goes running back in our room, jumps up on our bed, and starts jumping up and down as if she were flying through the air. The next hour was full of playing Super Jocey, coming to the rescue of Mommy and Daddy in despair! So fun.

And now, we have the perfect costume for her. Granted, it's a little impromptu, but will have to do. I just took an old white t-shirt of hers that had a monstrous stain on it, printed out a couple of logos for the shirt and cape onto iron-on transfer paper, and put it right over the stain. For the cape, I used an old pillow case. I thought it would be fun for her to keep the lace on it, make it a little girly. I cut it open, hemmed it up, ran a pink ribbon through to tie it around her neck, and cut two of our mardi gras necklaces in half and sewed them to the bottom. I ironed on the other logo, traced it with glow-in-the-dark frabric paint and glitter paint. I'll post pictures of the final product tomorrow.

The hair

The costume (she'll wear tights and tennis shoes underneath)

The symbol

The cape

And finally, practicing her new role as super hero (I guess stacking things up on top of each other won't keep her from climbing? Oh my goodness, at least she hasn't jumped, YET!)
