Springs Preserve and Yates Preserve

For Christmas, Jon's mom gave us a great gift - an annual membership to the Springs Preserve here in Las Vegas. If any of you living here haven't been down there yet, it is well worth it. They have a great child friendly museum, with a ton of exhibits that are hands on for kids. Jocey loved it! They also have a wildlife habitat at the museum for animals that are native to the area. They have a big grassy area and an ampitheater. And then they have a garden for native plants. We spent two hours there yesterday and still didn't get to see everything. Jocey had such a good time, she walked everywhere and loved that she could actually touch and climb on things. If you go though, make sure you take sunscreen, hats, and WATER! It was a hot day.

I don't know if being in a wildlife preserve/habitat got to me yesterday, but we were getting ready to leave for church this morning, and I saw a cat across the street stalking something. This something was moving too slowly to be a mouse, unless the cat had already injured it. I decided to go over and check out what it was. It was a red eared slider turtle! Poor little thing, I couldn't just let this cat get to it! So, I picked it up, and brought it inside. We are going to put it back into a habitat it is familiar with tomorrow! So for now, our house has been renamed "Yates Preserve." Hopefully he'll make it through the night in our little habitat we made for him.

fun for you guys! Taylor has one of these downstairs. "Squirt" has been with us now for three years. Darn thing is going to live forever. He's kind of fun to get our in the yard every once in awhile. But watch out... they really do move fast, and they can snap a pencil in half!

What a fun day ... it looks like you guys had a great time! You're so sweet to take in a lost turtle and then bring it back to it's own habitat. =)
