So, for about a year, I have been a convert. For the longest time I was CONVINCED that Wal-Mart had the cheapest prices in town. We're talking I would totally avoid Target at all cost. But then I was talking to my friend, Krista, who is totally Anti-Wal-Mart because of their labor policies, and she challenged me to start shopping at Target instead and see if I could get the same things for the same price if not cheaper.
If you remember, I posted on my cooking blog a praise to Wal-Mart for price matching. Well, they are making it increasingly difficult to price match. For example, they will not price match on anything that isn't the exact same brand name. So, for all you who find great sales on milk, meats, and other generic names (which are usually cheaper anyway at the supermarket), don't even worry about swinging by Wal-Mart. They won't honor it. Period. And those are usually the things that make the difference. Plus, Wal-Mart (in my experience) has the most expensive meat on the planet, and it's PREPACKAGED! YUCK! EW!
My other issue with Wal-Mart is that whenever I go there for a specific thing, they are out of it. And not just out of it on the shelf, they are out of it for WEEKS! The customer service is lacking. And the employees are miserable. I don't blame them either. The parking lots are a joke, the other shoppers are just as miserable as the employees. It's just no fun. Not at all. I have converted from Wallyism to Tarjayness. The only real business Wal-Mart gets from me anymore is buying gas at Sam's Club. Because honsetly, they do have the cheapest gas in town.
So, I am passing on the challenge, issued over at Mama Says. Make a list of things you normally shop for at Wal-Mart and try to find them at regular grocery stores or Target. You'll be surprised, I think. Oh, and Krista, they sell Pero at Smith's over here. :) YAY!

um, went there tonight :( I spent $7 and of course the item I went for, they were out of. Typical.
Smiths has great sales and your Target rocks. Besides friendly workers they have fantastic clearance deals. Happy you found the Pero, a staple for sure.
I have been a Target lover for years! I NEVER go to Wal-Mart! I find it very depressing! You are lucky too because there are so many brand spankin' new Targets so close to you! I am jealous! The Target by me here in Utah is a little older.....but I still adore it!
You are such a great and diligent blogger! Cute blog!
