(Logan, Utah Cemetery - Grandma and Grandpa Cook are buried here)
Memorial Day is an important holiday in my family. Every year, my dad would take us on a trip to visit my grandparents' graves. We usually alternated years between each side. And each experience holds a special memory for me. For example, I remember putting pansies on my Grandmother Cook's grave because that was her favorite flower. Right next to my Grandma and Grandpa Bush's graves is a very large tree that provides shade. When I was going to BYU, my friends Kaj and Shelby lived very close to the cemetery, and each time I'd go to visit them, I would drive right past their graves. That was always what Memorial Day meant to me growing up - remembering my ancestors.
This year, Memorial Day means something a little different. I am remembering and recognizing the service that my dad is giving to his country. He is serving in the United States Air Force in Kirkuk, Iraq right now. I miss him so much. Because of the amazing technology we have today, I am able to speak to him every other week. Lucky me. 15 years ago, during Desert Storm, I wouldn't have been able to talk to him, period. I am so grateful for modern technology and computers. I love him and am grateful for his willingness to serve his family, his religion, and his country. So this Memorial Day, I remember my ancestors and most importantly my dad.

made me cry.
Happy Memorial day...belated! We did the same thing, taking flowers to my great grandfathers grave and putting a little flag on it every year. Thank you uncle Steven for your service! I appreciate it, my family appreciates it. We love you! Thanks Cat for sharing this!
