Shamu, Shamu!

We finally took a vacation where it was just our family and no one else. I can't believe that it's been 4 years and we've never done this! A couple of weeks ago, Jon informed me that he had purchased tickets for 2 days at Sea World. I had a bit of a panic attack because this is very unlike me (spontaneous and spending money). But he got a REALLY good deal on the park tickets and on a hotel, so I really couldn't argue. Plus, with him being laid off (don't worry, he starts work again in a week), the baby coming in a month, and other time sensitive things, we saw this as the only opportunity for our family to have a little fun before the chaos begins.

We left Thursday morning, arriving in San Diego early enough to relax at the hotel a bit and then go for a good dinner at King's Fish House. Jocey was so excited - when we asked her what she wanted for dinner, she actually asked for fish! What parent is going to argue with that?! She had a full salmon filet, Jon was able to try Wahoo, and I had the Rockfish. It was fun for Jon and I to try something we'd never had before, and it was DELICIOUS!

Friday morning we got up early and headed over to Sea World. Jocey could hardly contain her excitement. She was screaming with glee as soon as we could see the tower that overlooks the park. First thing we did was see one of the Shamu shows where they talk about training the whales. We were able to meet Ulises (who weighs 9,000 lbs.), Orkid (5,000 lbs.), Sumar (5,300 lbs.), and Kasatka (5,400 lbs.). These whales are GINORMOUS! And beautiful. It was truly amazing to watch them interact with the trainers and to see how much love they have for each other. Jocey loved watching the whales jump and do tricks.

The rest of the day was spent seeing the other animals in the park - dolphins, sea lions, flamingos, sharks, fish, etc. We had lunch in the park, attended the sea lion Halloween show (during which they performed Thriller - very cool), and Jocey was able to pet her first dolphin. We stayed the whole day and were exhausted by the time we reached the Believe show (another Shamu show). When we got there, Jon got in line to get us good seats - front row. We were sitting there when a guy behind us started talking about how wet we were all going to get. I decided it would be safer to move up a few rows to the sixth row. Somehow, we didn't stay too dry there either. When we were splashed, Jocey wasn't too thrilled. In fact, she cried for almost 5 minutes after it happened. And when I say splashed, I mean SOAKED! I'm glad we did that at the end of the day.

----------------------------

Saturday it was back to the park for the morning. We saw the Clydesdale horses, beluga whales, polar bears, penguins, walruses, manatees, and more. Then we made one more try at the Believe show, only this time we sat up in the nosebleed section to ensure we would stay dry. Then we headed home. It was an amazing trip and I am so grateful that we had this opportunity to create memories. Jocey is already wanting to go back.

How fun!! We'll have to plan on going to the Sea World in San Antonio this coming summer. We'll make sure to sit in the nose bleed section too, Maddy wouldn't like it too much I'm sure if she got soaked. I'm so glad you guys got to do this. Thanks for sharing!! you all look so cute too!!
