Why, when a group of people is seeking civility, respect, and tolerance, can they turn around and not give that back? More than anything, these pictures make me sad. They make my heart hurt. I am not angry. There is a picture of a family walking to church, and you can tell the protesters are taunting the little girl walking ahead of her family. How pathetic is this? She didn't even vote! In a country that was founded on religious tolerance, and with Christian morals, is it a surprise that we want to respect the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman? Not because we are Mormon, but because we are Americans.
I have read several blogs discussing this. Here are a few of your responses:
Bryan and Camille Cook:
California Proposition 8: YES YES YES YES YES!
Post Proposition 8 Protest
P.S. to Post Prop 8 Protest
The Final Prop 8 Post
Rich and Karyn Tripp:
Protesting the Democratic Process
And finally, the First Presidency's response:
First Presidency Urges Respect, Civility in Public Discourse
We had Stake Conference last week, and our Stake President, President Tew, had this to say: "The leadership of the church has never advised the membership on how to vote. But, when you go against the direction the Prophet is taking, you need to question your testimony and your solidity in the Gospel."
My prayers are with the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, as they pray for guidance on how to protect the members of the church. My prayers are with you who live in California and Utah right now and are feeling the effects of these protests. It is time to evaluate your standing, your testimony, and prepare for rough times ahead.

These pictures are SO sad Cat.
That is very true that there are rough times ahead. Those are so sad pictures.
Thanks for posting this.
By acting this way, the homosexual community and/or those against Prop 8 aren't helping their cause. It just makes them look like whiney spoiled brats and causes people, like myself, to lose sympathy and further stand our ground. What they don't realize is that the people have spoken and Mormons did not make up even close of the votes. But, the Lord's Church will always be persecuted.
I've even heard rumors that members within the Church are starting to have their memberships removed. There are definitely tough times ahead. I like what your Stake President said. It's all so true. All we can do is continue to fear God more than man and hang on tight - this world is getting more evil by the second. These gay-rights activists are only tolerant if you agree with what THEY believe. Otherwise you're considered a religious bigot. It's sad.
