Beginning New Treatment

For those of you just joining us, about a year ago, I was diagnosed with PCOS. Click here to see my other blog entry about this. For this past year, my doctor and I opted for me to be on birth control pills. But, as it has been more difficult for me to lose weight, I have been looking into other methods to help the effects of the condition.

Today begins another effort to help the effects. I have been doing research for a while on medications and holistic remedies. And after discussing it with my doctor today (and after losing 15 pounds in the last 3 months), he recommended that I start treatment using Metformin. This is a medication used to treat type 2 diabetes. It is also being used frequently to treat PCOS. It is supposed to help with infertility, lower the likelihood of miscarriage, and help with other PCOS effects. Here's a website with information. From what I gather here, they are more pro-holistic treatment. Well, I'm willing to give this a shot. My doctor tells me that it'll also help me to lose weight faster - YAY! I love bonuses!

I will keep everyone posted on how I am doing, but hopefully this will help me get even that much more control of my physical health. Wish me luck!

My next door neighbor has pcos and has successfully had 2 kids using metformin...so good luck, look out for those triplets! The only bad side effect, it made her sick to her stomach...oh well!

Wow, Cat, I had no idea that you had PCOS. I've never really heard that much about it, so thanks for the info. I'm sorry that you've been struggling - yea for the weight loss, though. That's always a plus. Jocey truly is a miracle!
